Checkr Tenant API

Tenant screening made simple

Add tenant screening to your rental app, marketplace or property management software. Checkr runs the applicant flow and sends you the report.

API access is free. Pay per screening, or let applicants pay. You'll need a verified Checkr Tenant account.

How it works

Send a name. Get a report.

Your app sends one request. Checkr handles the applicant, runs the screenings and lets you know when the report is ready.

  1. You create an order.

Send the applicant's name and email, the property and the package you want.

  2. Checkr contacts the applicant.

We email them a secure link, or you share it yourself.

  3. The applicant completes it.

They enter their SSN and date of birth and give consent. You never have to collect them.

  4. You get the report.

A signed webhook tells you it's ready. Fetch it as JSON or download the PDF.

AI agents

Let your agent build it.

Paste the starter prompt into your coding agent. It reads our docs, writes the integration and tests it against the sandbox.

  1. Step 1

    Copy the prompt.

It points your agent at our docs and says what to build.

  2. Step 2

    Add a test key.

Test keys only create unbilled sandbox records, so nothing real happens.

  3. Step 3

    Review, then go live.

Read the code, run the tests, then swap in your live key.

Compliance

Built for FCRA.

Every account verifies its identity once before it can order. If you screen for your customers, each order says who they are.

For yourself

Screening your own applicants

You are the requester. Nothing extra to send.

For your customers

Screening for your customers

Send original_requester with every order: the business or person who receives the report. Orders without it can lead to account suspension.

Questions? Answers.

  • What does the API cost?

API access is free for everyone. You pay per screening, or choose Applicant Pay so the applicant pays instead. Screening prices are at tenant.checkr.com/pricing.

  • Can I test for free?

Yes. Test keys use a sandbox with five profiles that return fixed results. Nothing is billed, and most profiles skip the applicant email.

  • Which AI agents work?

Any coding agent that can read docs, like Claude Code, Codex or Cursor. To let an agent call the API directly, connect our MCP server with a test key.

  • Do you have SDKs?

There are no official SDKs. Download our OpenAPI 3.1 description to generate a client in your language, or call the JSON REST API with any HTTP client.

  • Where do I get help?

Message us from the , about access, your integration or anything in the docs.
